what brand of ink are you using, and for that matter is it a outlining ink? did you shake your ink bottle before you put some in a ink cap? is your machine setup as a outliner?what machine(s) are you using?

I bought some scream ink some peolpe say its not good others tell me it is, for the most part it works fine and yes i shake it well. my machine is used for both and i properly set it before i start what ever it is that im doing and yes i use the lining ink for lining, i make sure all these things are correct. and the skin is always properly stretched. when i think about it i may bemoving a little faster than my machine. Im gonna try slowing down a bit. thank for taking the time to reply. FACE$$

ok i dont mean to be hated by everyone but i use scream ink and havent had a problem yet with lining or with color
at least not on anyone else.......myself i think im allergic to lubriderm and tattoo goo and anything else ive tried
but for lining i have had no problems, so perhaps you are moving the hand too fast as you suggest, i think that is my wife's problem as well. good luck and to everyone, i will never begrudge someone for trying ANY ink brand. what works for you might work for her or him and it may not at that as well.
it all comes down to preference.
p.s. yes i do want to try all of the inks you have all suggested tho. i try to stay open minded.

I would have to say handspeed as well, remember patience, dont rush your lines!! A steady movement to complete each line!! I disagree on the INK!! :D -- Scream is too watered down and doenst really stay in the skin well- try millenimum , starbrite, intenze!! for eye popping colors!

im not dissin the ink or pitching sales for anyone just a suggestion ive never used scream and dont really care too but it was a suggestion i have used inks before that sucked and after switching ive noticed something diff.as far as hand speed that could also be a factor that takes practice and getting used to ur machine try slowing down or even check needle depth the ink thing was just one simple suggestion

Hand speed partnered with machine speed and a little ointment, are crucial to the lines consistency, as well as the stretch. Ink plays an obvious role as well. I personally use Nationals Tripple black for lining. However, Kuro sumi is great. It seems a little more creamy than the National brand. It lines, and fills a tribal piece well.
If you are pulling your lines and riding the tube( or not ) , try putting a slight angle upwards ( Not to the side) as to see the needle hitting the line on the way down. So instead of 90 degrees, make it between 70 and 90 while pulling downwards. Remembering to get a good stretch. Don't use that angle while pulling outside, or inside curves as it will cause the line to blow out into the curve, at that point you should straighten out the machine back closer to a 90, then continue with the line while changing the angle back towards the 70 percent mark. If the skin looks like a little bouncy blur while you are pulling the line, then streeeeeeeeetch it tighter with your stretching hand.
Good luck

definitely check your needle depth especially if you ride the needle. you have to be consistant with equal penetration or your lines wont be solid. also dont use too much vaseline, it can clog your tube restricting your ink.

consider buying a faster machine,im a speed demon.so some of my outliners are pretty fast.i use slower outliners when the piece is intricate or very small......too much speed and you can crash and burn lol jk

try black talon ink, its one of the best around mate, goes in black and stays black. don't quote me as gospel tho, its just what i know from experiance. i've never found a better black.

personally I'd suggest that you figure out how the machine works (regarding to speed, depth, stroke etc.) before running off and buying different machines, inks etc. Understanding how your machine works is a vital part of tattooing, and should be well mastered by all tattooist.

well said, its like 90% of effective tattooing is knowing that machine thoroughly.consider adding another machine to your lineup, that way you wont have to reset all the time

I've used more than a few kinds.. and by far.. Kuro Sumi is the best for a dark. solid, never fading outline... IF.. that is indeed what that specific tattoo calls far...

But like THEY said... know yur gun... probably good to add another one to your collection, so you dont have to constantly adjust.
KNOW IT!... LEARN ABOUT IT!.... HOLD IT... AND DARE I SAY... MAKE SWEET STICKY LOVE TO IT...

Happy Inking.
