Hello All. This is your newest, er...newbie...here to post some pics. This is my current project A.K.A Tattoo #9 (yes this is my ninth time slinging ink. I apologize, I was quite a slacker with my previous Tattoos and I did not take any pics of them, so you will just have to put up with good old #9 as my introductory Tat photos!)
This is the basis of the design.http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l9/Joker13_10/MeisTattoo020.jpg

Some stencil laid down...http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l9/Joker13_10/MeisTattoo028.jpg
Edit:
This is actually a light Gray Wash (tiger) and Gold (tribal) bloodline to establish my lines for future work....sorry for the confusion.

This is where I left off at at the end. The client I was working on (O.K. it was my wife...) Had only a short amount of time to get some inkwork in before she had an appointment...yes, my fellow Artists...this was done this morning.
I just wish she had more time to sit in the chair and get this baby moving ahead at a pace that would allow me to complete it sooner.
I will post more soon, as I complete more of the Work.http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l9/Joker13_10/MeisTattoo0351.jpg

Alrighty Then! (I'M Back!) I'm writing to share some of the set-up and procedures that I used in this particular Tattoo.
Machines: Brand X (Not the worlds most expensive nor are they total crap)
The Liner is a little 6oz. cast aluminum jobber, with factory 10 wrap coils, factory Capacitor ( I think 10mfd, 35V.) The gap is the typical dime with a smidgeon of spring tension against the contact screw (enough to move the A-Bar a little bit before the front spring breaks contact) I used a diamond shaped tube tip, with a 3-round (not tight) needle group. I run it at 7.5 volts from a small power supply, and I had the speed set by ear and vibration. (no choppy sound and not really buzzing on the hand....Smooth and purring.)
The shader is a 9oz. stainless steel unit with factory 10 wraps and capacitor (like above). The gap was the usual nickle, with a bit more spring pressure against the contact screw (but not much). I used an 8-round with matching tube/tip as well as a 6-flat with matching tube/tip. That machine digs it at just under 9V of power but I can easily throw some effects through it at 7.5V. I like it to sound and feel just a smidge choppy with a well defined A-Bar slap on top of the coils.
I typically ride the needle, so I am close to 1/16th out when the needle group is poking out from the tip, while I can just BARELY feel the needles as they are fully retracted.
Both machines use two #12 rubber bands as tension.
I use Mom's (Mother's) colors, they do me good. The lighter grays are made with K-Sumi gray wash, and some K-Sumi mixed in the cup with some Mother's Power White (for a truer Gray). The Black is Mother's Black Onyx, with a touch of their Brown Sugar tossed in so that it stays more black than doing the blue/black patina (over time). (Thanx to Uncle Bud for sharing that tip with me!)
I also used the Magenta for the nose and tongue, with small doses of Brown thrown into the mix to acheive some different shade techniques. Along the top of the nose and in the tongue (and don't forget the teeth), I used small hits of pure white to highlight, while the eyes are Brouwn Sugar and 14k Gold shades.
The whole Tattoo began as pure (uncut/unmodified) K-Sumi Gray Wash lining for the tiger, and 14K gold with a drop of Brown (mixed in) for the tribal.
The reason for this is because of time constraints (do not want to lose my design...repopping the stencil would drive me nuts...) and because I did not want to have a thick cartoon black outline for this piece. The Gold color for the tribal is used because I am going to do a Gold/Metal look to it, rather than typical solid/one dimensional stuff.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask, and I will blow the dust out of my brain-space and try to come up with some answers.
Take Care,
Joker
