i have just got word that scream brand has recalled there red inks "Ferrari red" so if you use this ink stop using it and contact the suppler you received it from.
people are having reactions to the high content of red in the ink. from light or washed out tattoos to swelling and prolonged scabbing or flaky skin
like i said stop using the scream brand Ferrari red ink and contact the suppler you received it from if you have any questions drop me a email

I also had MOMs monthly red scab heavier on me and take longer to heal. But on the other hand I have used it on people and it healed normally. Yes, it was from the same bottle of ink.

I had the same thing happen with MOM's Monthly red on flames I did on my wrist. Some of the red came out completely.I mixed MOM's Black Cherry red with witch hazel to lighten and redid them. Came out fine.

question: yesterday a guy came to me with a badly swelled / scabbed arm with a shitty tattoo on it apparently his older brother ordered a machine from a "cheapo" supplier and has been going at it all willy nilly, any way he asked what he could do about it , having read this thread and noticing only the red areas where horribly disfigured i asked what kind of ink was used- and sure enough it was scream , i told him what i knew but i didnt really have an answer for him , is there anything this guy can do the correct this or lessen it? also he has since booked an appointment with me (for a different tattoo) and i was wondering if its safe to work on the guy when that problem is still present, can anyone point me in the right direction?

personally, i would tell him to wait and let it heal just like any other tattoo. then if the red looks shitty, try going over it again with MOM's Viper red. That is the red i used in that pic of the dragon tattoo i did in the "my 3rd tattoo" post.
hope that helps,

that sucks. either way, it's never a good idea to push more ink into a healing tattoo. just tell him to take REALLY good care of it. did you ask him if he might have allergies to something in the red pigment? might want to check into that before you put more red in too. it would suck even more if he had to go through it all over again.

the peice he wants me to do is on a totally different area of his body , i was just wondering if it was wise for him to get more ink with that thing on his arm

oooohhhhh, i see. that shouldnt be a problem. just as long as he doesnt mind dealing with 2 healling tattoos at once.

scream also had a big problem with orange. i got a sample set of 20 and
some actually worked well and others did not...
black, white, red, orange, grey, green were terrible... they dont go in well and are not that bright... needlessly i wont use them because of that..
i only use starbrite intenze and moms now... as for black...lining, shading, greywash, and filling i only use kuro-sumi.

If I were you I would err on the side of caution and wait until it heals before you tattoo him, you never know it could affect how your tattoo heals on him. You might tell him to go see a doctor if it's still scabby and sore after a month, they might be able to give him something to fight the bad reaction he got. That's just my 2 cents.

yeah i ended up not doing it actually , because i was worried about the other one and the reaction , while i use only moms and intenze why tempt fate?

alot of people's skin just dont like red in general..doesnt matter which brand it is ....i recently found a friend of mines body just started rejecting it after i've been tattooing him for years , the red turned pinkish ..(he's getting up there in years ..late 50's )..and i only use "Unique" reds after seeing some horror shows with other inks (reds)..as far as how long you should wait to fix it ..i'd give it longer than a month thats for sure !!!! it could take as long as 4 months if the reaction was that bad !

yeah it wasnt my f*ck up- he got it from some dude who just got a "kit" off ebay that came with scream ink , i gotta tell you tho i never seen anything that looked that bad , the peice he wanted from me was on a different part of his body , i just didnt think it would be wise to tattoo him . considering his reaction to the other ink like i said why tempt fate - its like you said forgiven reds in general can cause reactions - better safe than sorry

good call ..keep in consideration his body is focusing on healing that ..any other trauma to the skin will just make that take longer to heal ..

serious scream ink always just looked shady. just like the full set of prizm ink ive had for like 4 years unused then i read something Forgiven wrote and now im using prizm for painting and ive got to say it definitely looks alot better on canvas than it ever will under peoples skins.

just a silly question,
does anyone know or remember(ol' farts lol) what was the most popular ink 25 - 30 years ago?
seems to have come down to a pissing contest. all i have used to date is scream, but alas just yesterday i finally ordered a full set of mom's 41 colors. popularity will do a big thing on people, today mom's is great, in 5 years it'll be called shit prolly when the next big thing gets popular.
just a thought.

yeah, hehehe, i'm sure i will, once the freakin government lets them through customs. lmfao
but alas, as i have heard more than a few experienced artists say, "it aint the brand of ink that does the work of an artist"

moms is a definate step up in quality - althought i really dont care for their black onyx, just dosent seem to go in that good - intenze yolked me in with their freebie for a few colors - i never really used scream but ive seen it under this one guys skin and it didnt look good to be fair , the guy that did it had very little (no) experience. but whatever i like moms not because they're popular i just like their colors and workability plus they mix really well
oh well thats my 2 cents anyway

Hey unforgiven I resemble that remark (ol farts lol) HeHeHe, I do believe Unique/Permapro pigment dispersions were the shit back in the day, and I still use them to this day. Still just as creamy and brilliant as ever. I have updated with the times and added millenium (MOMS) to my station. There are pro's and con's with every pigment.

thanks tat2dndn, if even one artist says "There are pro's and con's with every pigment", there's more that feel that way. and i know i have talked to several who have agreed. anyways, i did my homework on it all and listened to many, so along with the mom's 41, i also got kuro sumi and starbrite tribal black and starbrite's white as well.
so, thanks to everyone who have helped me make informed decisions.
i won't however be throwing away the scream, as i believe good art CAN come from it. (not ta mention i hate wasting, lol)

Yup, thats why I use different colors from different brands. I think I have found the ultimate palet. I love all my colors. All have been time tested and approved. All have amazing flow rates. You just have to stick to colors that work and keep buying them. I won't use just one brand. There is allways one shade from a company that just sucks.

I use eternal and have had no issues with the pigment.
everybodys body is different and could react to pretty much any brand of pigment, but the more reputible brands will tell you what is in theirs.
some people are just prone to a reaction. if that is the case let the body do it's work and heal it. months down the road look to see how it healed. sometimes you won't have to touch it up.
