View Full Version : Too Thick...

Hi every one! I'm new here, but have been lurking for quite some time just reading the very informative stuff here! My question is...
Ok, I've been tattooing for a few years... Off an on more or less... I've been using Voodoo brand ink, which I've noticed a HUGE downward plunge with the quality of the ink lately... Especially with this last order... It was pretty much a waste of money...
Any way, this last batch I got (All 40 colors in 4oz) is SUPER THICK!! And it's a real bitch to get the colors in... I'm almost afraid of scarring due to the amount of work I have to do in order to make it solid... Is there something I can do to make the ink "Flow" better, without taking away from the original pigment? Just to give a little insight on my "Time" in the business, I was using Voodoo brand ink when it was "Good", and "Flowed Well"... lol I'd like to thin it out, so I can use it, and not have to throw it out... I just ordered it, and that would be a HUGE waste on my part...
As of now, I'm about to put an order together for some Intenze Ink... So any ideas on thinning the ink, thus getting me by with this Voodoo crap would be VERY HELPFUL!!
Thanks In Advance!
Will

i may be wrong here, but i 'm pretty sure i heard somewhere that you can use a small amount of distilled water - be aware that this may lighten the color though depending on how much water you use.
you might want to double check that though
or try milleniums!!

Awesome! Thanks! I heard witch hazel from a few people... But I didn't want to try it before I knew for sure... Water it is then...
Would u recommend Melinnium over Intenze? Because I just ordered the whole 54 Color Set of Intenze, in the 4oz bottles... lol So I know I'm going to work with that for a while... lol But I may also try the Melinnium in the VERY near future... Thanks for the heads up!
Also, I like working with thin inks, and I heard that Starbrite was pretty thin, and went in well... Any facts to that?
Again, Thanks!

i also use millenium. no problems yet. as far as the voodoo, it depends on the ink whether you use distilled water or witch hazel. for example, i believe kuro sumi mixes better with some witch hazel, but i have also heard of people useing a little of both.

intenze heals bright but it tends to be thick, keep a small cup of distilled water on hand when using it to flush your needle and tip.milleniumis thinner, goes in well, mixes well heals bright, not as bright as intenze in my opinion but a close 2nd.voodoo inks suck, heals like watercolors

Thanks guys! Very helpful indeed... Guess I'm gonna try the water approach! I read somewhere last night that some inks use Vodka as the carrier... Get a nice tattoo, and drunk at the same time... :)
Again, Thanks for the help!

vodka, listerine, distilled water, withc hazel, glycerine...what not
just add some distilled water to your bottles to thin them out, just add a little first then shake, pour a few drops on paper towel, and decide if you want it thinner or not...won't change the tone of the color uless your pouring a whole bucket of water in it...

Thanks! Just the info I was looking for... I got my Intenze ink in a couple of weeks ago, and I believe that I've found what I've been looking for!! That stuff is awesome! After reading the posts here, I was kind of expecting it to be really thick, but so far, what I've used of it, is a LOT thinner than that VooDoo-Doo crap I was using... Thanks for all of the advice on the Intenze!!

i should be getting my intenze ink soon, though i do prefer thick creamy ink. i wouldnt use distilled water to mix/thinnen ink because water isnt antibacterial, id stick with vodka, witch hazel or listerine

Anyone have any idea where's the best place in the UK to get intenze ,, if it's available here.
PM or mail me please as to not post other suppliers here, if I can't get them here I'll try NJ''s

distilled water is purified and absoltely safe to use, distilled water is the
steam that comes from boiled water and then purified through many filters. i also use witch hazel.
i personally will not use listerine or vodka (no offense) thats just me.
i have no reason to use it when distilled and hazel are readily available,
cost pennies to use, and work well.
tap and spring water should not be used.

You're gonna love Intenze Inks!! I've switched to them exclusively now because they're so freakin' awesome!! Goes in good, heals BRIGHT!! I just got to see a piece that I did with Intenze after it healed... I'm VERY impressed with it!
Also, on a side note, I see Intenze now has lining ink, and a 3 step shading system (1 Dark - 2 Medium - 3 Light)... I'm actually thinking about getting some!
