How many people think that gloves act as a solid barrier protecting you from someone infected with HIV, or HEP....?

pathogens can be airbourne for as much as 30cm around the tattooed area also vaseline and other chemicals will break down latex

This has nothing to do with inhaling or any other contact pathway....Only gloved hands....

I'll draw it out like this.... Gloves are actually porous, if you were to put them under a strong enough microscope you will see that they actually have holes all over the surface.... Some may say "Well if we fill them with water why do they hold water".... The bottom line is molecular size. One molecule of H2O is too large to fit through the actual pores...But some pathogens fit easily thru them as they are smaller than the pores of the gloves.

An easy way to paint it would to be to place the gloves under the 'scope and relate the pores we see to say something like a volleyball net with big square holes in it.....

If we throw in a molecule of H2O in the same relation and scale it would be like throwing a basketball against the volleyball net.

If we throw in the most basic measurement of something like Hepatitis in scale it would be like throwing pennies at the volleyball net.....And it will fit thru readily and easily......

All of this is in relation to a glove without defect straight out of the box....not taking into account any of the things we add into the equation that aid in breaking them down....

Proper handwashing, and decon is the best method of prevention....

Does this include Nitrile gloves or just latex?
Is there any kind of disposable gloves that are a complete barrier?

there are gloves out there but with the pricetag they carry they aint disposable (like what the CDC uses) and they are too bulky to get any kind of tactile feel

as medical waste is incinerated the disposal of vinyl gloves is problematic because the create dioxins which are carcenogenic. try this link for more info on protection levels..

I was talking to a freind of mine who is a nurse, and she absolutely agreed with the gloves being porous. She recommends doubling up on gloves and getting your HepA and B shots and washing your hands religiously!!!

OK, checked the links needles put up, got nothing, was hoping someone could fill me in on the nitrile glove verdict. All I use is nitrile because some people alergic to latex dont know it. Well, that and I hate the way my hands look inside of them when they start sweating. That also makes you wonder about the true safety of condoms.

The bottom line is that it all boils down to proper handwashing. Dont trust a glove companies quality control practices when the sink is a few steps away.... If someone is allergic to latex then for sure use a safe alternative, but make sure you wash your hands thoroughly, properly and often.....
