called greywash...you can use distilled water, or witch hazel
the red (bruised like) is just irritated skin, but once it heals, it will be a greyish shade...

I think (if I'm getting your question right) that would depend on the design you are trying to do.
I would try using a grapefruit or practice skin until you know what each shade will do. Then you can use that as a recfernce for what will happen when you tattoo skin.
I have never heard of this 3 grey shading system you purchased. Could I get some more info on that?

kokkia sumi ? is that a cheap version of kuri sumi ? lol never heard of that before. and i know exactly what you mean with the redish/purple tint to the shading. as far as i know its how the ink pigment is cut with white that gives it that exact shade. just drop a tiny bit of red in some witch hazel and black ink and it should have the same effect, if not try mixing white, red, and alot of black and water or witch hazel. im pretty sure it will turn out light shading with a redish tint and it will stay that colour when its healed too. i think its mostly used as smoke effect coming from lotus flowers

the redish color you see in this picture is like i said before, irritated skin, but once in heals, it's just black and grey
if you want to have that sepia tone, i've personally never done it, but i would mix browns, reds, and dilute it...
never heard of that sumi thing...outline and solit black is talenz, i use pelikan only for washes, i have 4 different shades that are premade. i don't mix in the inkcaps, .5, 10, 20, and 30 percent...depending on the design, i would start with .5 or 10 and work my way to darkest. hope this helps

kinda off the topic but i had a customer come in wanting his tattoo to keep the redish look to ...so i added some red and brown hues to my grey wash ....looked like a really dark henna tat when it healed. customer loves it. just some food for thought..............

i mix red and white in my grey wash when doing portraits to give a different tone to certain facial shadows rather than different shades of the same black. doesnt make a big difference but it works for me.
