I saw this design by James Clements and liked it alot...it was a pencil sketch so I redrew it added some color and figured I would share. Claim no credit to it at all just a nice koi design and I figure someone may want it. Also here is a spider design I did....kinda simple but people seem to like it alot.

koi are bastard hard to draw properly, i don't really know that much about drawing japanese stuff, only really tried drawing one sheet of it, and a kiss demon chest plate thing for someone years ago, but i digress... does anyone know if there is a set way of drawing koi japanese style? like for instance in drawing japanese dragons the scales go a certain way and they have a different amount of claws to chinese dragons.

sorry to hijack the thread shady!

I actually have a fantasy book that explains the different types of dragons. Lets not forget the European dragons too. I will quote what the book says once I get home tonight, if someone doesnt beat me to it.

I know that one of the 2 dragons you mentioned one has different parts of different animals like an ox tail dog face blah blah. As for the scales I usually draw a line down the middle to define whats the middle and a few more lengthwise to show "twist" if any on the body then start with one half moon in the middle then up from there I will scan what I mean and put that up too.

Here's a quick sketch I made for you to look at. I know everyone has a different way of doing theirs this is just how I start my "loose sketch". Hope it helps.
