I recently did this tattoo on a voulnter.I am not a profesional tattoo artist but hope on some day becoming one.I just got done with a 3 month aprenticeship that cost me 1500 down and I was suposed to pay another 1500 upon completion. The shop did'nt live up to there side of the bargain so I told em to take me to court if they want to on the other half.
But any way I know this tat didnt turn out the greatest the voulnter knew what he was geting into.I do promise to do what ever it takes to make the piece exceptable to them.Any way this person has come back about 5 days later with this tattoo looking like sh@!.I've done about 15 tats so far amd have had to do a few touch ups,But this tattoo now looks horable. It looks all scabed and there is spots where the scabing is missing and the ink underneath totaly gone.I'm going to wait untill it totaly heals and see if it looks like I can fix it,or take him down to the nearest shop and see what they can do.But can any body tell me what I'm doing wrong. To me it looks like poor after care and this guy is not the brightest in the bunch. But I have to admit that I have had a few tattoos that the coloring needed to be touched up,and had 1 other one that looked over worked.I'll try and get a pic of this tattoo up a little latter so people can see it in its curent state.

to me it does not look that bad, looks like the tips may have some small blowouts and there are a couple of spots in the tribal that will need touched up. As far as scabbing really bad and missing scab/ink it sounds like he is not taking care of it right. And picking at the scabbing. I think most of your issue is the client here. But someone who knows more may say otherwise.

Here's a picture of how bad this tattoo is healing.I think you can see that the client is definetly not taking proper care of it.I went to his house to take the picture and he smelt like he had'nt taken a bath in weeks, and I even tried washing his leg a bit before taking the picture.Yet he swears he followed my instructions.
I instructed him to lightly was the tattoo 4 to 5 times a day with mild soap. Then to splash a gently rub it to get the soap of.Let it dry for 15 minutes or so ,and then apply a thin coat of neosporin to it for four to 5 days.then to switch to eucirin lotion or viatim e oil to keep it moist and to keep up the washing.Along with all the other normal affter care instructions no sun light clorine ect.I also told him if his sheeet or any thing stuck to it to get the material wet until it gently came off.
could I be doing something majorily wrong.
thanks:confused:

No neosporin - use A&D or lubriderm or even bag balm and washing it that much would dry up the tatt too much.I was mine a couple hours after being done and only when i shower or if it's been a dirty work day.

neosporin is like the biggest NO NO as far as tattoo's . I have a friend who is scarred for life from using it. Thats probably your whole issue. Also do not wanna be washing it that much. 1 time a day is plenty.

i give written instructions to each client,
a few minutes after tattoo i wrap it in saran wrap, they are told to take it off after 2 hrs, start to rinse with warm water (this open poures) apply soap
rub gently and rinse with cold water (this closes poures) pat dry with paper towel, when dry apply a/d and leave it alone till next day, get up in the morning apply a/d once in morning and once at night for 3-4 days......
after that once a day for 2-3 days regular UNscented hand/body lotion...
..... i do specify; do not wash periocically if at all, no long showers or swimming in ocean/ pool water until healed or 1-2 weeks..no picking at it...and if anything like a blanket fuzzy wraps itself in a scab LEAVE IT ALONE IT WILL FALL OF BY ITSELF...i have great results with this method..most people are shocked it heals so well...
hope this helps:D

I did'nt think neosporin or washing was that bad.I have heard people say neosporin can cause problems, but I got most of my tattoos done about 10 or so years ago and thats what alll the shops in chicago recomended, and most of them where done by world famous artists.I have a piece by guy atchison in 1989 when he was aprenticing at bob oslons custom tattoo, also a piece by tattoo pete from the tattoo factory.I noticed on guys web page he recomends nothing but soap and water now.I hade work done at jade dragons in chicago about 5 years ago and they recomended peperation h,any body ever hear of that?
But I will take some of youre guys advice and se if I can't improve this situation.I've tryed several difrent methods over the years and never had a problem with any of them.I tryed eucirin lotion most recently and it seemed to work great.tattoo was totaly healed in a week and looks great.
still wondering if I could be at fault some how?
