My wife and I are setting up shop in about 7 months. We will be done with are apprenticeship in Dec. Our apprenticeship has been very shop management intense. But we are still beginers as far as tattooing is concerned. We have done a good amount of tattoos but nothing spectacular just because business is super slow up here. So we need an experienced artist to help out with the more complicated tattoos. Email me for full details jwhitney114@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Dude, please don't take this the wrong way, but you may want to reconsider opening your own shop just yet. If you are the owner you will always be responsible for the people who work for you and their work. If someone does a tattoo you can't do, then leaves to work somewhere else, you can't guarantee you can touch up the tattoo later.

Time and again, I've seen people make mistakes, even good tattoo artists, and the customer does not want them to get anywhere near them again. So what do they do...they want the owner to fix it. If you can't, you've just lost a client, possibly for life.

Now if you can rock several styles, or if you're a master of one, and want to hire someone to fill in the stylistic gaps, cool. But you will always be responsible for every tattoo done in your shop. Just as each artist is responsible for upholding the shop's reputation. One bad piece and everyone gets a black eye.

Just a thought.

I would say, however, that if you want to open a studio...a clean, private place for you and your partner to do appointments and not share your cut with an owner...then cool. Nothing wrong with that. But this is way different than a street shop where people walk in not knowing jack about tattooing or you or anything.

Legally wise... the only difference is .... with a private studio you wont have to obtain certain permits to operate... with a street shop... you need to have certain permits met and certain services to be fully legal.

I might be wrong. So don't quote me.
