I have finished my first machine. It's a steel frame milled out of a solid piece of steel. Thank you to everyone who post invaluable information. I bought the coils but think I will try my hand at winding my own on the next machine. This machine was built as a gift for my tattoo artist for Xmas. Pictures aren't the clearest but you get the idea.

the front binder hole looks along way forward
It very well may be, I was just mucking around with some metal I have (tons of iron and steel out on my back 40) I just measured the hole placement off of another machine with calipers and copied that....I haven't quite figured out the tube vice yet...me and andy were talking about this yesterdaay....

If it's too far forward, just invert the contact screw...

If it's too far forward, just invert the contact screw...
If you do that, you'd have to have the screw on mighty tight cause the normal placement of the contact screw makes it so the spring hits it dead on without pushing it up and loosening the screw on the front upright. When you invert it, it just pushes the contact screw upwards and you'll always have to re-adjust it.

Is it me or is the capacitor on back to front? The arrows should be pointing towards your contact screw whereas they are pointing down to your front binding post.
