my second medium would be portrait sketches would be nice if you guys would take a look at them and let me know what you think, although im sure everyone in here is a damn good sketcher i spose you would have to be to be a tattoo artist.
theres a link to my deviantart page in my public profile, and please ignore the portraits with the greyish background they were drawn when i was about 15,

no just used ear buds and scrunched up paper for the shading, alot of my earlier ones were in pencil then i discovered charcoal.

Really nice work,i think i am going to have to try out some charcoal myself,i am still using different types of pencils hb,2b,2h and that sort. Also really helps with the tattooing, everyone should try to draw thier arse off in between tattooing.Keep up the good work, and take your time and learn all you can with your tattooing,it just gets better, keep at it.

Sweet work, keep it up!!!! oh...and about people not wanting to pay your prices for a portrait, try and meet em half way, that's how you build a rep, one person hearing from another... raise your prices as the work starts to roll in....Van Gogh never saw a cent from his art, don't let it happen to you...

yeah maybe i should cut of my ear lol. maybe i need a websight most sights iv come accross charge between $75 and $200 for portraits and then 50% increase for everyother subject to be in the drawing, granted the guy charging $200 is 10 times the artist i would ever be. i had a woman ask me the other day if i would draw her and her 3 kids but she only wanted to pay $30, at the fastest i could complete it would be 12-15 hours i dont think she will be getting any portraits anytime soon not from me anyway,
i usually work with people on prices but some people are just taking the piss it sometimes even offends a little to think all your time and hard work is worth about the same as a case of bud budweiser.
anyway thanks for all your nice comments if anyone can see anywhere i could improve let me know i always like constuctive criticism
and timmy yeah give the charcoals a try they are easier than i thought they would be and bring alot more depth to the drawing, the only difference i found is you have to build up the shading alot more gradually than with pencils and get in all the blending before you add the next layer, especially if you working on a heavyweight drawing paper. i have yet to try canson paper but i have heard it is real good to work with once you get used to the smooth surface.

another thing i found that helped me with the transition from pencil to tattoo gun before killing the grapefruits was to put a pencil through the tube vice hook it up and let the machine hum away while you draw for me it helped me get used to the weight of the machine and the vibrations, i dont klnow if this is a well known practice method but it worked for me

Yeah i think a few people did that in the begining,i never bothered myself as i didnt find it to hard a transition for some reason.
Ive been offered money to do portraits for people but ive always wanted to keep the original as i find it very hard to give up my work so i normally end up doing it free of charge and giving them a copy.
Ive been meaning to get round to tryin charcoal but not had time yet,i just love my pencils so much!

the easyest way to not part with your artwork is to do montages of peoples children that way you can draw them all seperate and photoshop them together, keeping the originals for yourself unless of course they ask you for the originals. i have the same problem with not wanting to part with my work and i dont know why cos when i copy them right the copies look just as good as the original i guess its just one of those wierd artistic things.
