a local artist let me look through it when my wife was getting some ink done at the shop...

ill sum it up for you..

presentation: piece of crap... printed out at kinkos and not even binded, no hardcover... shitty for a $100 book.

content: superfluous.... takes 10-15 pages to say something that a concise writer could some up in one page... lots of crap on approaching sleeves and actually goes into detail how he creates a friggin clay sculpture in the process of designing the sleeve...

its somewhat interesting, but very long winded and if you got a short attention span you will be bored. I am an avid reader and I found myself skimming like crazy.

just my opinion... every little bit of knowledge helps,

Guy's book is well worth the buck, it's obviously not all about the tech side but it has valuable info in regards to design, contrast, and tons of other info that can all go into creating a better tattoo or any type of artwork for that matter. He does talk about machine set up and his techniques, especially his method of building up lines rather than single pass.
He also puts out the book in a binder format rather than your usual textbook style to keep costs down. You also get access to his forum which rocks!!
If you don't think that 15 years plus worth of info from a top notch artist like Guy is worth $100, then what is?..

from what i understand the book is not called reinventing the tattoo machine it called reinventing the tattoo. meaning from what i understand working on tattoos different ways than what were use to. layout and contrast are big things he talks about. i hear it more of a book about the art side of tattoong and less about tattooing flash. doing your own art and not trying to be like someone else.

This site is not a means of scoring Guys Book for free. His insight is 10 times the artist on this forum and worth every penny binded in a hardcover or stuffed in a manilla folder. As far as we're concerned he should charge $200 written on toilet paper and we should charge a membership for dumb asses who bitch and whine on this forum like they got sand in their pussies - grow the fuck up or find another forum. If the shoe fits .... you know the rest. Peace Out.

Yep, definitly worth the price. He covers a lot of aspects with what makes a tattoo good, and even what can make a good tattoo look bad. He could easily charge more for it, and he doesn't care if you are not in a shop. I believe he feels if you are going to take the time to read his book you are more than a "scratcher" who really knows nothing. Also access to his forums is well worth it too, some very good information in there and very helpful people, including Guy himself.

I assume that was directed towards me. I was merely giving my personal opinion on the book, and the artist who bought it agreed with my sentiments as well.

notice I said every little bit helps... can never learn enough, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the book and glad I got a chance to review it before I bought it which I had intended to.

maybe you thought it was great, just because I didn't doesn't really call for berating me and stooping to insults.
