I've seen that many states have laws against tattooing the face, or around the eyes. I've also noticed through my studies that the face is one of the more traditional (tribal) areas to get work done on. Is the law a way to discourage indigenous tattoos, or what? I don't see why an American Indian can't legally get a tattoo in their traditional way. Is this bigotry? Or is it out of some health concerns? ( a face is a pretty gross place bacteria wise) Oh....that brings up another quesion, Laws on Tribal reservations? What are they? Do they have health departments to register with (I bet they do). Anyway.....post back guys, Post every day!

might b different over here in the uk but the last time i visited my favourite local tattooist he had a sign up saying no facial or neck tattoos. i asked him why he dont do them and his answer was " im a respectable artist and i can also afford to turn down tattoos, i wont put a tattoo where it cant b covered up because what some1 likes 2day they might not like 2 moro, and circumstance changes and a facial tattoo could stop ya getting a new job" as an after thought he told me that if someone had come in underage with a fake ID and gone home with facial tattoos their parents would go ape and he would b in a world of shit. i think that was his main concern lol

mine does them here in uk is it legal. i have hands and neck done but the only reason i have them is done is because i have alot of others... if u walk in to a studio with just 2 or 3 tats chances are they will say no to hands or neck or face. though there is 1 studio here who is known for tattooing young peoples faces... usually between 18 and 23. thing is they fade like hell and no one else wants to touch up there face cus they dont agree with them having it as there first tattoo. its something ya gotta earn. i doubt the law in usa is to stop tribes having there tattoos because none went to a studio anyway they all had the leader tattoo it from there camp. and as far i know indians never had facial tattoos. i know a few tribes did but not indians and im sure none were american or living in america so that law doesnt affect them.

Facial tattoos used to be common with several of the Native American tribes, mostly on the chin (like a moko tattoo) I won't tattoo a face (undercover art is my moniker after all, gotta be able to cover it) The strange law dictating were an individual can get a tattoo placed is what I wanted to know about. Is there a legal reason why facial tattooing is illegal in some locales. Tongue splitting is also illegal in Texas, and I can't find a reason why.

I believe most of the face laws were brought about by doing permanent eyeliner and the risks associated with it. Ga. state law was had to have doctor present when tattooing within 1 in of eye socket. It was repealed July 06 after the permanent cosmetic industry petitioned it. I think the tongue splitting is also a concern of the medical risks.
