Applying the tattoo

Your artist may like a picture of your tattoo for their portfolio. They'll clean it up real good, and sometimes even apply a hot towel to it first. Then they'll take a picture, and this is a good time for you to get a shot, too, if you brought a camera along. Taking a photo after the protective ointment is applied causes a glare, so it is best to do it now. If for any reason you do not want the artist to take a photo, just say so. You are not under obligation to let them.

What do you guys/gals think about using a hot towel? I've never heard of anybody doing that before a photo?

I like too lay a paper towel with witch hazel on the tattoo for a couple minutes. Helps with the redness and makes for a good pic.

the hot towel method is used by many tattooers in japan and worldwide.
it draws out imperfections and opens the pores real fast. as for using this with photos i have never done that but works for healing.

that leads me to the question about using a poltus(think thats how u spell it) on a tattoo? its bread and boiling water.. same idea as the towel only its an old fashioned way of healing and drawing out infection/impuritys.
i think u wore the poltus for a while, i cant really remember its been ages since people seemed to use em! would something like that be good to use as a cleaning/healing aid.. obviously you couldnt use it when u scab up tho! it would just make everything soggy

I had to hot towel my very first tattoo.I was locked up at the time and infection had set in pretty good. gee go figure homemade ink and the likes but it took three guys to hold me while they boiled a towel in the hot pot then just slapped it on.Shit hurt like hell but it did suck the infection out as well as most of the shading. So be carefull when done you dont want to remove your work if you try this. That tattoo has long since been covered up. LOL

hay i read a artical in a mag once where a guy was getting a traditional japanese tat in japan straight after finishing the work he was told to soak in hot springs ,which apprently helps stop infection and seals the ink in better.
