Since I am diving into making coils, I am looking at tips for finishing coils. Obviously clear shrink tubing isn't one of them, nor is hockey tape with lacquer on it. I am looking for how to get that old school look. Thanks!

I guess I am looking for that nice glassy look. When I got my coil wire I got a bunch of burlap like material which might be good for wrapping then coating to get the old school look. Just waiting on my plain magnet wire to get wrapping down since it cost a lot less than the syn silk.

I use white hockey tape, then a couple coats of wood stain and finish with 1 coat of resin.

Once again thanks everyone for the advice!
Finished product plus other coils I have wound, all will be for sale as soon as I receive solder lugs. All are 8-wrap except for the old school ones which are 7 wrap with about a 1/8 of a wrap in a downward spiral.
Image is large, sorry I even resized it.
