I've been wondering what you guys do for soft fatty skin such as stomachs or even the backs and sides of arms. I find that I gotta go over these lines a few times when doing outlines even though I've got the skin pulled extra tight. I also have a problem getting in color on the fatty skin. The tats heal nicely but I feel sorry for the client who has to endure the extra tattoo time. My machine gets it done with no problem on people who are at a better fitness level but I find myself working about 40 to 50 percent longer on pudgy folk. Any tips would be helpful.

I have a few extra pounds on me and when doing myself I have a long stroke, soft hitting liner that lays ink in well in these areas. Ive read where some have switched to their shader for outline work in these fatty areas but thats not proper as Ive read and you should definitely have the right tool for the job. Stretch is crucial as well but the machine will help. I am sure others will have a more personal hands on experience for ya with other people, but on me this works.

try a shader 5-7 with the needles loose ink flows better and you get solid lines alot easier. works for me let us know how it works for you.

I dont recommend switching machines, try making sure the skin is real tight and remeber to hold your machine at a 45 degree angle as this will lay ink into the skin best as well as making sure the machine is pointed down so ink flows to the tip. if this doesnt work, make sure your contact screw is hitting well, some machines at angles lose good contact, as well as how you hold the machine and its weight, for example if your using disposible tubes the weight can cause the tube to bow at strange angles putting added pressure on the tube bogging the machine down some and affecting the line work.

Stretch extra well and use patience. Slow down and make sure you get the correct feel. As for stretchmarks, there is no guarrantee that they will not blow out. All you can do is use a very light touch and a soft hitting machine. Also, not too much of an angle will help with the ink not spreading out under the skin.
