something to think about before buying is STERILIZATION AND CROSS CONTAMINATION PREVENTION equipment, this is more important than what type of machine, ink or PS you get..

If your attitude is to get what's "fast" and something that isn't "alot to think about" then maybe you ought not to buy any equipment yet --- instead, read some posts here, read some books, read up on cross contamination and sterilization, etc. You're liable to make some very large mistakes if you rush into it without any idea of what you're doing or getting -- not to mention that tattoo is something you NEED to "think about alot" before diving in.

i know its not right to get whats fast!!! If you read the top you can see its not just me thats getting this tattoo machine! Im the one that is doing the research of machines and ps and everything i need! thats why im on here! i know i need to lern a TON befor i start! trust me i dont wont to be the guy who gives tattoos that make your aim fall off!!!! give me time to get to know what i need to know! i just wont to do this the right way and if you cant tell i dont know what to say....once agen! thanks

It's great you want to learn, I was just reacting to your attraction to things that wouldn't require a lot of thought.

The most valuable thing I did prior to buying any parts was to read this forum and the Huck Spaulding book.

If I recall correctly, you can get the Spaulding book from supplytattoo.com -- it's called "Tattooing: A to Z" ... and it's a great introduction!

dalebert, you said you want to do this the right way. So go out to the local shops and do whatever it takes to get an apprenticeship. And as far as that HS book is concerned...that will give you an idea of how to tattoo if you ever find a time machine and go back to 1975. That book is useless! If any of you have it now, throw it away!!! Kits SUCK! Wanting to get into this for under $500 is plain ignorant. Buying a kit and jumping in like it sounds, will make you that guy that makes someones arm fall off...or at least they'll wish it fell off.

Sorry to be mean about it, but you have to show some respect for this. It's a VERY serious deal.

A second edition was printed in 2000, and regardless of the practices it mentions, it is still valuable in its assembly/disassembly instructions, basic discussion of machine parts, explanation of machine settings, etc. It may not be the most up to date, but it's not completely useless as far as very very basic intros go.

Then buy one part at a time as you save your money and learn. All this rushing around you're trying to do is going to bite you in the ass.

first of all dude, your in no way shape or form to give any tattoos at all. if you dont know what you need, how are you gonna know if your CLEAN.

#1. learn BBP & CC issues before anything. then take a course on both.
#2. GET AN APPRENTICESHIP. this way you learn correctly. (as you stated you want to do it the right way)
#3. if your gonna do this go in it for yourself, you said you and your freinds want to get a machine, thats bad karma right there.
there is no way anybody can stop you from purchasing equipment, BUT...you can be stopped from tattooing.
quick scenerio: one of your friends does a tattoo with the machine your all supposedly going to use, he gets finished, realizes he has got to be somewhere, and he doesnt do a thourough cleaning of the equipment. now you come in to do a tattoo, you set up your area, and go at it. now a few months to a year go by, you guys are tattooing like mad men, saying this is cool, man this shit rocks, i love tattooing, we are the bomb...and in walks the health department, the local police, the F.B.I.......and the person you gave a tattoo about a year ago. come to find out this person contracted say HIV from that COOL ASS TATTOO you did. ..GUESS WHAT...your going to the BIG HOUSE............whats that......you didnt know the stuff wasnt cleaned properly.......to bad....you could be charged with attempted murder...being that HIV eventually becomes AIDS, which is a life threatning disease that there is no cure for. now while you go through trial and sit in PRISON...your buddies are having a blast..........dont expect anyone of them to help take the heat........lol.............see you in about 20............DO NOT DROP THE SOAP!!!!!!!

think about this shit first. dont rush into it. dont look for the fast way. study, research, study some more. learn everything you can, and continue to learn. if i put two machines in front of you, are you going to know which one is set for lining, and which one is set for shading. its not a joke. your reputation is at stake here.....if you rush into it, and you put out shit work because you took the fast way in, well your reputation is gonna fall to the floor, and then the only tattooing your gonna be doing is yourself, or your "BUDDIES". you got to wise up young blood. if your in this to fatten your wallet, well it aint gonna happen. yea there is quite a few well known artist out there thats makin good money....but thats it...its just good money...there aint no multi-million dollar artist out there, (well except the ones from these tattoo shows on T.V), but think about it, if they didnt get cut that break, where would they be...they sure as shit wouldnt be world known. you got to put your heart into this. do it because you love it. put everything into it. eat, sleep, and shit about tattooing.

do yourself a favor: go around to your local shops, check out the artists portfolio, find one you like, get some work done by him/her, let them know your interested in becoming an artist yourself. if they turn you down, then work that much harder to prove you got what it takes. spend the next couple of months drawing up designs, and getting a certificate in BBP, CC, FIRST AID, & BASIC CPR training. do custom peices, typical flash, like roses, crosses, skulls, daggers, hearts. then go back, get some more work done from him/her, again let them know your still interested. show them you took the initiative to learn. let them see the certificates, and your porfolio.....now im not saying that this is definately going to get you in, but with a little pestering you have a good chance...........................thats doing it the RIGHT way.............my 2 cents

it just pisses me off, that people try to find the quickest, or fastest way to do things, without any knowledge at all. here i am with a $1600 mortgage, bills, a wife, and son that i as a man am responsible for. i tried getting an apprenticeship about 11 years ago. the lady i was trying to apprentice under told me i was wiasting my time, and it would cost me $5000 to get in. i busted my ass for about 6 months to save up the money, i go back and she laughed at me, told me to pick another career. i got dicouraged and well shut the idea of tattooing out of my life. i thought i didnt have what it takes. now here i am 11 years later at 30 yrs old wishing i would have stuck with it,as it is alot harder for me now. i cant give up my job to do a full time apprenticeship. i would love to, but the cards just wont allow it. i am very dedicated in learning every single little thing about tattooing, but its hard on your own... even with this forum. now if i could find an artist that would take me on night and weekends, that would be like a dream come true, but the chances are slim. i have now been back in the tattooing industry for about 2 yrs. learning every thing i know from this forum. before i even thought about setting a needle into someones skin i read everything in this forum for about 7 months. read quite a bit of it 3 or 4 times. then i broke down and bought some equipment from right here at NJ's. im a hands on learner, so alot of this stuff i have to read a few times to understand it, and its hard. just when i think i have somthing figured out, and try to apply it, i end up right back at the starting point...........

my wife is very supportive of this, and would love for me to get an apprenticeship, but we both know that with our lifestyle, it will be very difficult. so i did the next best thing for now. i just put about $1100 into a room specific for tattooing. i dont have an autoclave so everything is disposable until i can get one, and set up another room specific for that.

anyway thats the reason for this pissing me off. someone comes into the scene looking to just go hack away at peoples skin, possibly scaring them for life, thinkin its a damn game, and here i am applying all i know to the art, and passion of doing what i love, and cant seem to get a foot in the door.

sorry for the rant guys.......and im not lookin for simpathy..i know i put myself in this spot

ok ..
heres the deal ..
i think this guy is "fishing" from another forum or site ...(after speaking with another long term member & he agrees)
i think the questions sound too staged (if that makes any sense)
i think the spelling is TOO wrong to be real..
we've seen it before ...and i'm sure we'll see it more because of this sites popularity ...
my "bullshit detector" is going off ....
if i'm wrong ,i'm wrong but i can usually smell em' a mile away ..(batteroyal),and if i'm wrong in this case ,i'll apologize .
so people keep in mind that not everyone is what they seem ..
keep it tight ..

1) to FORGIVEN. sorry for the spelling...thats just me being bomb! the only forum im on is for wake boarding and 4wheeling....i don't think anyone from the wake boarding forum even know about this forum...i only know of two or three guys that even have tattoos! so if you wont me so send you the link i can just so you can see so everything is out in the open...?

2) As for me, after geting some tattoos it looked easy to do...and iv given one small tattoo before. so i didn't think it would be to hard to get into...i was wrong by a long shot! so here i am trying to find out the right way of going about it and not jumping into it!

3) im still trying to tell my friends that its going to be more money then we wonted it to be! with wifes, kids and a house that we are redoing inside and out there is not a lot of money....as i think a some of us know about. looking at ebay and seeing "kits for 200$" i wonted to get a REAL idea of tattooing....so im trying

4) thanks tom for posting that! that stuff helps me see how tight this Forum is!!! looking out for the new guys!

so after saying that i hope you guys have a sense of what im trying to do. so please give me time to find\read everything i need to do everything properly and clean! im going to go to the local shop and talk to them to. well i can't think of anything elts to say in my behalf so ill leave it at that.
