I just found a really bad-ass FREE! multitrack recording program on the net......It's called REAPER (sorry no link) found it easily on google...If you've ever used cubase, or pro-tools, you'll love this one....There is even a good forum to check out for support....I loaded it on my lap-top, loaded an ASIO driver for my soundcard, and now all I got do is plug my guitar straight into the mic input on my computer and record away! Very easy, I recomend it for any of you guitar players...

Any of you try Garage Band (Mac)? It's pretty sweet. All of the samples are realistic...not the 80's midi stuff... not that midi sound doesn't have it's place in rock n roll history. I have found that a few of the sound progs out there have poor quality drum kit samples. But back to the original post...I just tried Reaper out and for being free, it's pretty good.

oh hell yeah, pro-tools is the best, but I don't have it anymore, so for just demo type applications, Reaper works allright, plus it's free....Now for REALLY recording, I have vintage reel to reel 4 tracks (akai), Mackie board, and a freaking roomful of rack mount crap.....But poor me, my amp head (Marshall JCM 70) and two of my 4x10 cabs are out on tour with a band (Brokencyde) won't get em back till after next years Warped tour....oh, forgot, this was about recording software...anyone ever use cubase le? I have a copy of it I can send someone who needs it, it doesn't work with Windows Vista, so it's worthless to me now...pm me if ya want the cubase disk

I hear ya'. I still track all drums on an old 8-track reel to reel. Nothing like tape compression. After that it gets dumped into ProTools and edited and then built up into a song with all of the additional tracks. I'm a sucker for gear so I barter out for it and check out pawn shops whenever I can for a good buy on good gear. That way if I ever get in a pinch and need to unload I have extra gear so I'm seldom out. Touring takes the life right out of amps...Mine have never been the same.

Thats what i was worried about, but they (Brokencyde) are getting their breakthrough oppurtunities..I could help, so I did....I don't even like their music much, but they are local boys (I tutored they're guitar player on music theory) and they have a bunch of tattoos from me, so good exposure by them is good exposure for me...Now I really like the idea of using tape compression on a tape track dumped to digital, drums were the only thing I was tracking straight digital (since I'm not much of a drummer) and I haven't been happy with the overall sound, not enough saturation....Thanx L Pease....

i've been using a br1600cd from boss. it's nice, but i've heard pc recording is less of a pain in the ass.
