Hello, my friend that i have just done a tat on has some crazy scabbing that he has never had from a tattoo before, i've done 2 others so far and they healed with a light/low scab. I've recently done a tattoo on his upper arm in light blue, dark blue, and dark red, but this time the scabs are big and gnarly, some have caught on his shirt and ripped off so i'm a bit concerned... any clues as to what i may have done wrong or or maybe its the type of ink, i don't know... please help my friend is kinda worried.

Too deep?Over worked?

i packed the color in a lot so that makes sense
, i tryed not to go any deeper than i have in the past but that could be it too.
could it have anything to do with the tension i was stretching his skin at??

do you no anything about needle depth, machine setting, are the technique needed to tattoo certain areas of the body some skin is softer than other parts so you just cant go in there with the machine cranked all the way up we will need to no what ur skill level is and what you no to be able to help you but seems to me you over worked the skin

excactly what voodoo and tatguy has said, certain parts of the body might need extra care, and to adjust the machine to do so....!

i dont think its the area thats the issue here, what depth do were you tattooing? riding the tube/needle? hows your machine set up?
Brownsy67
11-23-2007, 03:57 PM
first things first...definitely a noob, i was riding the needle, and i have no idea how my machine is set up, i turn it on, set it too 4.5 volts, and adjust the contact screw until it sounds ok to me, ya its probably not a good thing for me to be doing tattoos, but practice makes perfect, i let people know that i really have no clue what i'm doing, and they still show up...
any hints or tips are muchly appreciated!

Hey Brown, no one is trying to be a dick, they are trying to help! but seriously, go back and read up on the archives, get an understanding of machine set up, and tuning! You can't tattoo properly without having your machine tuned for the job. Then learn about your needle depth, and what needle configuration you need to get the job done. Also read about BBP, and C.C. cause a dirty environment, is an unsafe environment! Start of slow, then when ya get the hang of it, up your pace a lil! And it prolly wouldn't hurt to try and seek out an apprenticeship. It takes time, and learning to be able to tattoo, Hell I've been tattooing for 11 years, and I'm still learning new techniques. All in all, don't rush, it will come to you in due time!

no, I was trying to be a dick...totally.....if you think setting yer machine at 4.5 volts and then crankin down the contact screw is the way to go, you should quit tattooing until you learn what the fuck yer doing, simple as that....

Hey man im pretty new at this too, and i haven't got an apprenticeship yet, (working on that) but iv also hung around enough shops and watched and bugged enough artist i know half ass what im doing, but if you dont even know how to set up your machine then you should seriously listen to their advise and take a brake until you learn some more .... im not really the best one to be pretching cause im no pro yet, but one tip is to be nicer to the people on this form cause the will help you out alot, (they have me), even if they seem like there being "dick's" listen:!: dont foucus on the bad shit just learn what their point is and learn from it, if that makes sense ...

Pretty much disregard any possibility of pulling off an apprenticeship with that attitude, if that was your angle for the future. You're too thin skinned to be anyone's shop bitch, and apparently don't take any type of criticism well. I know this seems like a glamorous lifestyle, but quit watching TV and start learning and paying attention, otherwise you'll end up just another kitchen table hepatitis spreading jackleg. Many people have worked to hard in this industry to make this the respected and recognized true art form that it is to have another scratcher fuckin people up permanently, not to mention the dangers you're putting yourself and your family in. TB, HVB, HVC, HIV, etc is no fuckin joke and nothing to gamble someone elses health and well being on, just because you bought a "gun" off ebay, and now you want to do "tats". WAKE UP and GET EDUCATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My .02, Marc

Alot of good people have given this person alot of good advice, but with an attitude like this i would say that all this great advice went to waste as far as this person is concerned,as they are obviously to ignorant to realize that everyone was giving them good solid advice on the proper way of doing things, but apparently they would rather keep on livin life as a know-nothing about what the fuck i am doing kinda jerkoff until they end up fuckin somebody up with some disease or worse then maybe they will realize this advice was meant to help, but by then it will be to late for them, but hell all this advice is still good for anyone else that is actually willing to learn,so fuck that person i will step up and say that i think all of us that are actually taking the advice given here greatly appreciate the efforts you people take to put out good and correct info to make sure nobody that is willing to take the advice will not go down the wrong path.

You know what...I am still very proud of my first tattoos. I'll still put my old portfolio from the first two years up against anybody in my town currently. If you are SERIOUS about this trade and take the time to learn the basics you can do professional looking work from the start. Showing how little you know by your machine set-up, then getting defensive when people point out that you really need to learn a bit more before touching humans shows your complete lack of respect for the victims you're practicing on as well as the whole tattoo industry. Grow up and think past your own wants and desires for a moment and consider the harm you are doing to everybody including the industry as a whole.

i am a little retarded, but i do know enough not to go at people with homemade stuff, just don't know how to properly use it, which is about the same thing...sorry, no chance for an apprenticeship in my town and a lack of net time for reading the material on here, so thats why the dumb questions without reading first. Thank you for your replies, have learned of a few things to check out first, as well as the type of people that are out there in the tattoo community.
Have a good day, y'all could learn a thing about having patience with noobs from user:CropCircle...Cheers

so you have been reading up on the net. you got the plans for a homemade machine right down to the nozzle.
funny thing is we dont want an explination from you,, or your reasons why
you cant find the knowledge. mabye you just like to speak and be spoken to with complete disrespect..allow me.. take your head out of your fucking ass
dipshit!! its morons like you who do absolutely no research on proper tattooing ,and at the most buy an ebay starter kit not knowing a fucking thing about safety..your posts paint a fuckin ugly picture in my head of who i think you are..even though i dont know you .. you have given me that opportunity to guess.. so put the fucking machine down cause you got it all fucked up adjusting it.. NOW READ CLOSELY AND THOUROUGHLY!!store it away for atleast 1 year , buy a god damn computer, log on here everyday, and read the past posts and threads only.. dont bother posting anymore.. do searches on B.B.P. cross contamination safety courses available in your area, and fucking take EVERY CLASS offered..fill sketchbooks with drawings,, trace everything, take art classes.. once you have accomplished these areas you can pull the machine out set it up and run it on some grapefruit,,pigskin,, or synthetic skin made for tattooing..after months of murdering grapefruit, purchase reputable quality tattoo machines and supplies and try your new found learning on your own skin until its covered in ink.. by then you should be able to find someone to apprentice under...or atleast know about tattoo healing.
there you go!! you got some advise now use it wisely.

Haaaaaaaaahahah!....HAH!! I'd been looking for that post for a while. When I first found this forum it was of course invaluably informative; but when I stumbled upon that gem in the archives I was hooked. That and some tweenie called "missy.." or somethin' -- showing off her boyfriend's "work" and blowing raging fits when criticized. Unfortunately the photos were yanked, so I didn't get to witness the masterpiece first hand. In any case I'm keeping track of this quoteworthy thread. Can't wait until I've got work worth posting: I'm "...fuckin dicks"-ing all of ya. Hah, I loved that guy. I hope he's graduated to practicing tattoing his own eyeballs (or his sphincter, whichever's funnier)
Later ....fuckin dicks

But also V's were too low, hitting far too soft & was dragged his needles. Which can make an even bigger mess than overworking IMO?

Good advice, the path i took. But...the more i learnt the more them little machines blew my mind lol.
Just watched Brandon Bonds DVD. He knows nothing about machines. Rings Pulse. Tells em what he wants. Uses it "straight outta the box"
