Sounds like it took a chunk out of ya. After doing some metal sculpture, I hate those things aswell. I kinda need all of my fingers so I stay away from them.

im hearing ya Andy!!!,
found hangin em high so theys almost fully extended to where you work prolongs the life...also found you can buy cheap ass tools with flexi's (over here any way) that mount stright onto the dremel..

I have the dremel flex with the push button lock, its in a place where while ising it you can inadvertantly depress it and wear the f*&ker out...

air tools would have to be better

just get a cheap chinese compressor to go with it

i used to work at a yacht mast manufacturer and we hand filed everything for years. Got air grinders and never looked back. More balls than dremals and last better

pneumatic is the way to go.....or hand files, you may be surprised how much metal you can take off an object by hand filing

I got that setup and bought some carbide burrs for it... it's not expensive and it puts my dremel to shame. I do have to say it needs a decent compressor (10 gallon, 5cfm or better) since it can drain a small hobby compressor tank almost instantly...
