im getting into making my first machine and almost have the frame completed but i wanted to have everything on the machine handmade so i have a issue on what i could use to make some nice looking post manley the top post went to a local hardware store and checked out some fittings but i was just wondering if the builders could shed some ideas the use to make there post thanks for any advice

get some brass 5/16" or 3/8" round stock...... you dont need a lathe...use your drill press by putting the stock in the chuck to smooth the ends (it will also give you a close centre if you do it right), and you can use files to shape it after doin the threading etc..
