View Full Version : Metric threads?

I am making coil winders and one customer has requested an adapter to wind coil cores with metric threads.
I know the thread size is M4 but what is the thread pitch .7mm or .75mm?
What are the thread sizes for binders and contact screws? Are there metric tubes and needles?
What else should I know about metric tattoo machines?

No, I sold one in the UK and he was fine with 8-32 threads. The guy I just sold one to is in the US and is making machines. I'm not sure why he wants the adapter, I don't know where he is getting his cores.
I know metric screws are used in chinese machines, if you are buying coils from china, why wrap them yourself?
I'm probably too trusting, I already have had one of my designs copied, it only took a week.

That's funny, Demon Dan did the artwork for that one. He has been a member here for quite a while.

Forget metric needles (yes there are but it dont matter), Metric Tubes... possibly but we're fully metric over here and run imp tubes, and if you run split vice you can always drill em 8mm and they'll do both with a decent slit.
Binders for metric 4mm, Contact screws i've seen 3mm & 4mm (i run 4mm), as for thread pitch .7 is pretty standard so you can run with that.
Lil tip on your winders, if you run a 4mm thread and its a reasonably short thread you can actually wind both 4mm and 8/32" tapped cores on the one unit, you cant on an 8/32" thread (eg 4mm is multi-use).
I've seen the winders your doing, Personally i'd make a few changes to the setup, to avoid some of what I've seen in the pics on ebay (Layering)

Thanks very much!
Is "layering" the beehive shape I am getting from uneven wraps at the washers? How do you stop that?
Tell me how to fix my winders and I will be happy to send one of the super improved winders to you free.
I'm a machinist, not an artist. I've only been winding for a short while (Probably less than 20 coils so far). I wrap a pair of coils with each winder to test it and wrap a pair when I finish a machine, so my experience is very limited.

The links to my pictures were removed. I must have screwed up on the forum rules. I didn't directly link anything.
I don't have anything for sale at the moment so I guess posting links in the For Sale area would be wrong also.

Hey Rat: Basically you have to be a subscriber in order to be able to post links. After subscription you can post your pictures in your own gallery. Then under your name you have a little icon that links to your personal gallery. Pretty cool. Also, if you are a subscriber there is no cost for posting items for sale. Otherwise, I think it's .99 per item.

DR, I know Dan resoanbly well (as he may have told ya??) anyway, I was not going to drop improvements for your winders out in open forums, for obvious reasons ;)
Ill put a few things together over the next lil while and email to dan to pass on. BTW I don't need a winder for the info either bro, I actually have a real nice simple method that works tits for me.
